| Creating the image Intertwined and one variation |
| The InterplayArt image Intertwined is about patterns. I took an image of some branches (Image 1) copied it to a new image in Photoshop and then used Image- Rotate Canvass- Flip Canvass Horizontal to create Image 2, the reflected version. | Image 1: Branches |
Image 2: Image 1 reflected horizontally |
| I copied the reflected image to a layer above a layer with a copy of the original image, set the opacity to 50% and merged the two layers. The result is shown below. |
| Image 3: a combination of the image of the branches with its horizontal reflection, combined 50%-505. |
| Next I duplicated the layer with the merged image, selected the duplicate layer, and opened Lucis Pro 6. To make this image more colorful I decided to use Split Channel Mode. I also unchecked the Display Composite Image check box so I could view the intensity information in each color channel. The process I used next is simple. I selected each channel in turn and moved the Smooth Detail slider and Enhance Detail slider until I had an interesting grayscale pattern. The goal was to create an interesting pattern that was discernibly different per channel but not so different that the combined processed result would get garish colors. The following three images show the Lucis Pro 6 User Interface with the each Channel selected and the slider settings I choose. The fourth image shows the Lucis User Interface with the composite Lucis-processed image. |

| Image 4: The Lucis Pro 6 User Interface, Split Channel mode, showing the intensity information in the Red Channel with the Smooth Detail slider set to 11 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 117. |

| Image 5: The Lucis Pro 6 User Interface, Split Channel mode, showing the intensity information in the Green Channel with the Smooth Detail slider set to 5 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 101. |
| Image 6: The Lucis Pro 6 User Interface, Split Channel mode, showing the intensity information in the Blue Channel with the Smooth Detail slider set to 1 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 161. |
| Image 7: The Lucis Pro 6 User Interface with the Display Composite Image check box checked so I could preview the Lucis-processed image. |
| Image 8: Intertwined. This image was created from the merged image using Split Channel mode in Lucis Pro 6, with the Smooth Detail slider set to 11 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 117 for the Red Channel, with the Smooth Detail slider set to 5 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 101 for the Green Channel, and with the Smooth Detail slider set to 1 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 161 for the Blue Channel. |
| Changing the slider settings changes the contrasts, detail, and colors in the Lucis-processed image, as shown in the second variation below. |
| Image 9: Intertwined, variation #2. This image was created from the merged image using Split Channel mode in Lucis Pro 6, with the Smooth Detail slider set to 21 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 89 for the Red Channel, with the Smooth Detail slider set to 21 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 89 for the Green Channel, and with the Smooth Detail slider set to 21 and the Enhance Detail slider set to 121 for the Blue Channel. |
