Creating the image Armadillo Grass
armadillo grass

This image was created in two parts. First the image of the grass was processed three times in Lucis Pro 6 to create a more stylized look. To create the stylized look I used the Smooth Detail slider this time. Then this pattern was mixed with the armadillo image and processed again with Lucis.

Except for the screen shots, click on any image to view and download a high resolution version of the image.

The original image of the grass is shown below (Image 1) and the original image of the armadillo is shown below (Image 2).

Image 1: Armadillo. Image 2: Grass.
First I processed the grass image with Lucis to smooth the image. A smoothed image reduces the detail and flattens the image. I used Single Channel Mode, the Smooth Detail slider set to 111 and the Enhance Detail slider unchanged at 253. The Lucis-processed result is shown in Image 3 below. Then I copied Image 3 on to another layer, selected that layer and opened Lucis again. This time I processed the image with the Smooth Detail slider set to 211 and the Enhance Detail slider unchanged at 253. Now the grass is more like a neon watercolor image.

Image 3: Smoothed grass. The grass image processed with Lucis, Single Channel Mode, the Smooth Detail slider set to 111. Image 4: Highly smoothed grass. The grass image processed with Lucis (Image 3) processed again with Lucis, Single Channel Mode, the Smooth Detail slider set to 211.
Smoothing the image twice using Lucis removed most of the detail. However when this highly smoothed image is mixed with the armadillo image and processed with Lucis to bring out detail, the smoothed grass image will add a lot of color and texture. Below is the mixed image resulting from merging a layer with the armadillo image (Image 1) and the opacity set to 35% with a layer with the highly smoothed grass image (Image 4).
merged image
Image 5: The merged image. A layer with the armadillo image and the opacity set to 35% was merged with a layer with the highly smoothed grass image (Image 4) with the opacity set to 100%.
Now I copied the merged image to another layer, opened that layer and opened Lucis. I choose to use Single Channel Mode because the colors were already bright in this image. I moved the Enhance Detail slider to 141 to sharpen the image detail. Then I moved the Smooth Detail slider to 37 to smooth the image. Last I moved the Mix With Original Image slider to 105 to mix in 10% of Image 5. The result is shown below in Image 6. Image detail is shown in Image 7.
